Ben was bred in 1999 and again in 2000 to Sweetwater's Shasta of Zion, OFA Good, a solid 26 inch tall smooth-coated bitch weighing 90 pounds, who is by Grand Victor abCH Bionic Black Smoke of Zion, the famous "Shep", and out of Zion's Image of Hia-Leah. Triton is a puppy from the first litter and the rest are from the 2000 litter. If you are looking for a dog with working aptitude or an excellent companion consider one from this breeding as it is scheduled to be repeated in 2001.
Litter Observations: The Litter Evaluation was done at 7 1/2 weeks of age. I found this litter to be consistent in type and temperament and produced a large number of dogs with working aptitude -- 6 out of 8 puppies! Their breeder did a beautiful job raising and socializing this litter. They were kept in her home and the puppies were all clean with beautiful shiny coats, were negative on fecal exams, and had been examined and vaccinated by her veterinarian. As you can see, they are all smooth-coated duals in various shades of black and cream/silver/tan, most with "tall" ears! Ashlinn was a very sociable and confident girl with a medium temperament. She had a perfect retrieve drive, barked at, then talked to the can of stones, grabbed the tug and pulled. She had excellent responses on the Search and Rescue (SAR) aptitude test with a great "nose". She reminded me of Ben as a puppy, with lots of attitude and drive. She is now living in California where she may be used for breeding in the future. She received an OFA Good on her preliminary hip x-rays, Normal on elbows, and is 27" tall. Gabby was a constant tail wagger. She displayed a medium-hard temperament with possible Search and Rescue aptitude. She appeared to have lots of play/prey drive, and non-stop attitude. Her name, Gabby, fits her very well and she lives in Virginia where she is in training to become a Search and Rescue dog. JR was the only male in this litter and was a very handsome and confident puppy who wasn't afraid to look one in the eye. I suspect he will be a lot like Ben as an adult, complete with slightly large ears and a high degree of intelligence. His temperament is medium, he has lots of attitude while not being hyper, and should make a great companion dog. He might do well in obedience or agility as he exhibited a great deal of play/prey drive, persistence, and willingness to hold onto objects. He resides in New York. Shayla was a very calm puppy with a soft temperament. She is alert and very forgiving, with a beautiful head and conformation. She was kept by her breeder in Iowa and is her "Dad's" constant companion wherever he goes on the farm. At 12 months of age she is 27 1/2" tall, and may be used for breeding. Tanner was a big puppy with a medium to medium-hard temperament. She went up to the can of stones barking and growling at it and remained very focused. She also grabbed the tug, tugged vigorously, and wouldn't give it up. On the other hand, she was very sociable and forgiving with people. She lives in Iowa. Maggie was a very sweet puppy with a medium temperament and a constantly wagging tail. She was very social and has a very cute head with a great expression. She ran up to the can of stones, barking at it, with a deeply furrowed brow. She lives in Kentucky where she has already become a much beloved companion dog. Sadie was truly Miss Personality. While having lots of drive she remained very sociable and forgiving. She had a medium temperament and lots of working aptitude for SAR, obedience, or agility. She was a leggy bitch with a beautiful neck and topline and very tall ears like her mom. She lives with her family in Iowa. Heidi was a lovely medium-soft girl who would like to have a career in obedience, or maybe agility. She had a very forgiving temperament, perfect retrieve drive, and was a happy and well-socialized puppy. She grabbed the tug and wouldn't give it up, but was wagging her tail the whole time. Her personality does not lack for anything. She lives with her family on a lovely horse farm in Kentucky.
