Ben is a smooth-coated black and silver Shiloh Shepherd by Grand Victor abCH Hilltop's Triton King of Zion out of National Select bCH Hilltop's McKayla of Vic-Mar and is from non-MAW lines. He is 28 1/2 inches tall and weighs 125#and was certified OFA Good at 38 months of age (SLH-44G38M-T). He is a Breed Club Champion and a Federation of Rare Breeds Champion (FORB). He was retired from the show ring as soon as he earned his championships as he prefers life on the farm to life in the show ring. Ben is one of the most intelligent dogs we have ever known and a very good judge of character. In our household one must pass the "Ben test" before being truly accepted. Always the athlete, he has been known to surprise many a visitor as he jumps out of the picket-fenced yard to greet them, or over the 42" tall half-door that is intended to keep the dogs in the kitchen. As evidenced by the photos below, he takes his job as "flock guardian" very seriously.
Ben sired his first litter in 1999 and shows promise as a sire of puppies with wonderful stable temperaments combined with working ability. His puppies had good size and their puppy aptitude tests showed confidence, intelligence, high retrieve drive, great tug response, and tremendous socialization. This litter was repeated in 2000 and Shasta delivered 8 healthy puppies on May 8th, one year to the day after her first litter. Their Litter Evaluation Reports have proven to be accurate one year later. To see these puppies, please access the page titled Ben's Babies using the link on the lower left hand side of this page. If you are interested in a smooth coated Shiloh as a great companion or if you are looking for a puppy with a high probability of working abilities, the Ben-Shasta breeding is scheduled to be repeated in the fall of 2001.
